About Us

Tourism Intelligence Foundation

Lévé is one of the first initiatives of the Tourism Intelligence Foundation – a not-for-profit organization with the goal of radically transforming and reengineering education to ‘lift up’ mind, spirit and self-esteem of our people. The Tourism Intelligence Foundation recognises the importance of talent and the service and creative industries in building true economic well-being for the people of the Caribbean. Be it tourism, the creative industries, professional services or tourism, services can truly dynamise our economy and bring economic prosperity.

The Tourism Intelligence Foundation aims to uplift talent in all facets of the tourism and services industries; to demonstrate that valuable linkages can be created between tourism and the creative industries; and to develop a marketplace where talent and great products can be more firmly integrated into Caribbean lifestyle and its valuable and growing travel and tourism industry.

The Brains behind Lévé - Dr. Auliana Poon

Born in the twin-island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Auliana Poon graduated with a BA (upper second class honours) and an M.Sc. (Economics) from the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago. She attended one of the leading European Universities, the University of Sussex, England, where she graduated with a D. Phil (Technology and Economics).

She established Tourism Intelligence International Limited in 1990, opened Villa Being in 2000, launched Being Sustainable in 2010, set up the Tourism Intelligence Foundation in 2015 and orchestrated the first Lévé in Tobago in 2016.

Poon led the team that developed the second National Export Strategy for Jamaica (2015-2019); developed the feasibility and marketing strategy for the Underwater Art Installation for Tobago; and developed the Strategic Action Plan for the Caribbean Tourism Sector (2017-2020). She led the teams in implementing the Euro 6 million Eco-Tourism Development Programmes (2003-2007) in the Commonwealth of Dominica and in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (2007-2009).

Auliana Poon developed the concept of tourism as an ‘Axial’ sector to drive the future competitiveness of Caribbean services-led economies and the strategy of  “flexible specialisation” for the sustainability development and export competitiveness of small economies. She invented the concept of ‘Diagonal Integration” to explain the new “best practice” for service economies. She also invented the concept of “responsible Tourism” as a strategy guideline for the development of the Tourism Industry in the new South Africa.

Auliana Poon developed strategies for trend-setting companies such as Sandals Resorts International (Jamaica) and Conservation Corporation (Africa); and developed the "tourism begins at home" programme that sparked the turn around in the Bahamas Tourism Industry in the early 1990s.

Auliana Poon is analyst, co-author and editor of many of Tourism Intelligence International Publications. In 2005, she undertook the competitive assessment of the Barbados Tourism Industry; developed the framework for the management and promotion of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Industry (2004); the Singapore Tourism Board (2003-2004); developed the Marketing and Human Resource Development Strategies for Mozambique and Malawi (2004-2006).  Poon developed the Marketing and Positioning Strategies for the CARIFORUM Health and Wellness Sector (2012-2013).

Auliana Poon is well-travelled. She delivered the “Intelligent Island Public Lecture” in Singapore way back in 1991. Poon addressed numerous conferences in many countries including Macau, Hong Kong, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Indonesia, Barbados, Jamaica, Antigua, Aruba, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Guyana, Germany, England, Scotland, Belize, Dominica, Australia, Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, Palestine, Zambia, USA and many, many more.

Auliana Poon is an entrepreneur and has successfully developed and exported talent in the form of professional services for more than two decades. She has practical and “hands on” experience of building a global brand and exporting globally small service-led businesses.

Auliana Poon loves Trinidad and Tobago and believes in people. Her personal mission is to change the world; to transform our societies. She shares her time between Berlin, Trinidad and Tobago and many destination and countries around the world where she works.
